Here at Parkway Family Chevrolet, we obviously love the entire lineup of great Chevy vehicles and everything they have to offer. Every once in a while, something new comes along that innovates in a way and breaks the boundaries of what we’ve come to expect to such an extent that it takes our excitement to the next level. The all-new all-electric Chevy Silverado EV coming next year is undeniably one such vehicle, and we’re incredibly excited to be your Houston electric Silverado dealer. This is a truck that we’ve been waiting a long time to finally get some details about, and after Chevy started showing it off a few months ago, we’ve only become even more anxious to take the Silverado EV for a drive.

If you’re not sure about the Silverado EV and the future of the auto industry, then that’s understandable. Change can be alarming, and EV models didn’t always live up to the hype in the past. The future is going to look different, and a decade from now, the Chevy lineup will have transformed substantially: to be honest, we can hardly wait. Let’s take a look at some of the things we’re most excited about with the all-new Silverado EV, and we think you’ll be just as enthusiastic.

Incredible Performance

We knew the Silverado EV would have impressive performance since it’s a Chevy truck, but exactly how good it would be was still a question mark. Other companies have introduced their own EV pickup offerings, but still, we had little to go on from Chevy until they finally revealed the specs on this new truck. As soon as we saw the numbers, we knew that Chevy had come through in creating something special.

Initially, the Silverado EV will be offered as an RST trim with a motor system that delivers 664 hp and 780 lb-ft of torque. Just a reminder, this is a light-duty full-size truck, not a heavy-duty model, and it’s putting out incredible power. With their new Wide Open Watts system, which is like a launch control feature but with improved power and functionality, the Silverado EV can go from 0 to 60 in less than 4.5 seconds. It’s incredibly powerful and will be massively fun to drive, revolutionizing what we expect from a Chevy truck.

How does this translate into real-world capability? The Silverado EV RST will have up to 10,000 lbs of maximum towing capacity and up to 1,300 lbs of payload capacity. Along with this, there will be a Work Truck (WT) model available for fleet customers, which will offer 8,000 lbs of maximum towing. After the initial launch, Chevy has already revealed a model with 20,000 lbs of towing capacity will become available—the future of EV towing is going to be something else, that’s for sure.

Great Range and Fast Charging

Beyond performance, the other major question that everyone had was what the charging and battery range would look like for the Silverado EV. Range anxiety is still a major concern for many people when it comes to going all-electric, and we understand it. Previous generations of EV models could have limited ranges, making them less than practical.
Fortunately, the Silverado EV will have up to 400 miles of range from a full charge, letting you take care of work or get around town without worrying about it. DC Fast Charging support will be standard, which will let you get about 100 miles of range from just a 10-minute charge. All of this is thanks to GM’s innovative new Ultium battery platform, which has been used on other models, including the impressive GMC Hummer EV.

Learning From GMC

In fact, the work on the Hummer EV has informed just about every major decision in the engineering of the Silverado EV. From where we’re sitting, that’s a good thing because the Hummer EV looks amazing and is set to change what many people expect from an SUV. The overall design of the Silverado EV seems to be largely based on the same platform as the Hummer EV, and this includes great features like standard Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) thanks to a pair of motors rather than making 4WD an option.

Other fantastic features of the Silverado EV also come from the development of the Hummer EV, like the four-wheel steering system. This allows for an incredibly tight turning radius and precise control when you need it, whether you’re getting out of a parking spot or maneuvering on a job site. The Silverado EV RST will also have an air-spring suspension that can raise and lower the truck by up to two inches, making it easier to get in and out while offering fantastic clearance when you need it, much like the all-new Hummer.

The Multi-Flex Midgate

This might not be essential for everyone, but it’s still something we’re excited about. Much like the old Chevy Avalanche, the Silverado EV will have a folding midgate, called the Multi-Flex Midgate, with a pass-through that allows for items up to 10 feet in length to be loaded into the bed with the tailgate up. This joins Chevy’s fantastic Multi-Flex Tailgate to give you numerous options for loading up the bed and keeping everything in place. Plus, with a 60/40 split rear seat, you can load up long items safely while still having a passenger in the back.

An Incredible Interior

From what we’ve seen, the interior of the Silverado EV is going to be absolutely stunning, particularly with the RST model at launch. It’s sleek and refined, without being a barebones offering like you find on too many other EV models. There’s a 17-inch center display for the infotainment system and navigation, along with an 11-inch digital gauge cluster with graphics and all the information you need to keep track of on the road. There are plenty of physical controls that you can easily adjust while keeping your eyes on the road, and a big center console between the front seats gives you more than 7 gallons of storage capacity, letting you fit an entire lunch cooler inside it.

Next-Level Technology

Thanks to Chevy’s offboard power system, it will be easy to use all of the impressive power packed into the Silverado EV. You’ll be able to provide power to a number of other devices and electronics through up to 10 sockets, including a 240-volt outlet in the bed. You’ll be able to power camping equipment, charge your laptop, provide power to your home, or help charge another EV to get someone out of a tight spot.

Taking things to the next level, the Silverado EV will also showcase GM’s impressive Super Cruise technology. This semi-autonomous driver-assist technology allows for hands-free driving on more than 200,000 miles of roads across the US and Canada. Best of all, this version of Super Cruise includes trailer support, letting you go hands-free even while towing to make long road trips less demanding on you.

A Sign of Things to Come

All of these incredible features are just the beginning for the Silverado EV since this is only the launch of its first generation. One of the exciting aspects of this is that right now, Chevy has shown off a WT trim, which is essentially the starting level for fleets, and the RST is designed as the high-end option. This gives us a taste of where things will go with numerous trims that will be offered between these levels, providing plenty of options in the years ahead. There’s no doubt we’ll see great off-road features, enhanced performance, and much more in the model years and generations that follow, and we can’t wait to see where things go from here.
