What was once a twinkle in the eye of an engineer – electric vehicles have become so advanced that we’re now seeing electric trucks. This idea of pushing an already forward-looking concept even further has resulted in some of the most revered manufacturers taking a step towards bringing a greener future to the industry, yet one that doesn’t lose any of the bells and whistles we’ve come to expect with our gasoline-powered vehicles. Of course, we’re talking about the Chevy Silverado EV, and at Parkway Chevrolet, we’re your go-to Houston Electric Silverado dealer because we’ve got all of the info you need, and our team members include some of the most knowledgeable folks on the topic of Chevy EVs.

If you exclusively drive pickup trucks, then you’ve never experienced anything like the Silverado EV. With the Silverado EV, not only can you expect the same kind of performance that makes the Silverado so well known, but you get the luxury of an entirely electric powertrain. This saves you money in the long run without the need for gasoline or diesel, and you can charge your vehicle at home during the night so that it’ll be ready for your next adventure in the morning. Although people have known about the existence of an electric Silverado for some time, the results were beyond anything many of us expected.

Legacy of the Silverado

As you likely already know, the Silverado shares its build, performance, and many other qualities with the GMC Sierra. The Silverado and Sierra both have an extensive history with one another, and both got their start as part of the C/K trucks that both Chevy and GMC produced. Of course, both Chevy and GMC are subsidiaries of General Motors, so there was no real challenge in bringing the same design philosophy of their pickup truck to two separate manufacturers. With that in mind, these vehicles are more-so partners in crime, but if you’re looking to get a Chevy vehicle, the Silverado is the truck of choice.

With this in mind, the first time the Silverado was launched as its own thing, it was met with high praise for its performance and durability, especially amongst the other competitors in the late 1990s. Throughout the last twenty-plus years, the Silverado has seen as much success as it’s seen change. Today, the Silverado can be found in a variety of forms, such as the Silverado 1500, 2500 HD, 3500 HD, and many more.

Overall, the performance also scales quite well, with features such as towing only being describable as great, excellent, to outstanding. The legacy of the Silverado can’t be understated, having sold well over five million trucks in its time on the market. To put things into perspective, the Chevy Silverado is the second-best-selling pickup truck of all time, trailing slightly behind the Ford F-150. However, the Silverado is Chevy’s best-selling vehicle in its own right, and then jumping into the EV market was inevitable for the titular pickup truck loved by millions of drivers as technology progressed.

2024 Silverado EV

What’s so exciting about the 2024 Silverado EV is that it’s the first of its kind within the lineup. Electric Chevy vehicles already have a footnote in the market, with the likes of the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV, but the Silverado EV brings this concept over to Chevy’s best-selling pickup truck. Of course, the most notable difference between the Silverado EV and the gasoline-powered vehicle is in the name – the Silverado EV runs on a battery platform linked to motors. This is different from your average hybrid vehicle, too, because hybrids will combine the battery with a gasoline-powered engine, which results in increased fuel efficiency, albeit you’re still using gasoline. With EVs, there’s no need to visit the gas station because you’ll be charging your vehicle in-between sessions, and with the 2024 Silverado EV, you’ll get an estimated 400-miles of range on a single charge.

With such an impressive amount of mileage, courtesy of the electric powertrain configuration, the question on everyone’s mind turns over to how it performs. The aforementioned battery inside of the 2024 Silverado EV is a 200kWh battery, and it links to two motors. Unlike your average truck, the ride will feel incredibly smooth without the likes of a traditional automatic or manual transmission. Best of all, there are two configurations of the powertrain that you can opt for with the Silverado EV: one that outputs 510 hp and 615 lb-ft of torque, and the other that outputs 664 hp and 780 lb-ft of torque. With the base configuration, you’ll have a towing capacity of 8,000 lbs, which sees a sizable 25% increase to 10,000 lbs with the upgraded model. Payload capacity also sees a small increase between the two powertrain options, going from 1,200 lbs to 1,300 lbs.

With the 2024 Silverado EV, cargo space is also a tremendous achievement. Thanks to the inclusion of the Multi-Flex Midgate and Tailgate, you can fit items in your cabin as large as 10ft long. And best of all, the Silverado EV comes with the same amenities as other electric vehicles, such as an eTrunk, which is a cargo bay under the front hood where an engine would normally be.
