Chevrolet is something of the king of SUVs. They make multiple models in every body size, from subcompact all the way up to full-size. Families with modest passenger and cargo needs and massive ones alike can find something that works for them in the Chevy family of SUVs. Because Chevy boasts such a diverse selection of SUVs, we regularly have drivers come to us with questions about which one is right for their needs. Families who are working towards financial goals (like putting kids through college or upgrading to that house with another bedroom) don’t want to pay for features they don’t need. Of course, everyone wants to make sure that they do get the features they require to tackle busy family life.

We’re just under 18 miles away via the TX-99, so if you’re looking for the Woodlands Chevy dealer that understands your needs and isn’t too far away, pay us a visit. We can help you decide between two of Chevy’s popular large SUVs: the Traverse and the Tahoe. One is a three-row SUV, and one is a full-size one. Sometimes, detecting the differences between the two can require expert assistance (like the type we provide). They’re both spacious, safe, and rich with infotainment features, but they also each justify having a spot in the Chevy lineup because they are different in ways that count. So, which one is right for your family life—the Chevy Tahoe or the Chevy Traverse?

The Tahoe: Good for Growing and Busy Families

Great Towing Abilities for Outdoor Excursions

The Tahoe is a full-size SUV with seating for eight and massive towing abilities. With The Woodlands being so well known for its over 200 miles of stunning hiking and biking trails, the Tahoe is a good choice for families who want to enjoy an outdoorsy life here. If you want to take an ATV, camper, or boat out to the lovely outdoor recreation areas here, the Tahoe can tow over 7,000 pounds; it is up to the challenge. We often recommend it to residents of the Woodlands who like to bond with their families through good old-fashioned outdoor recreation because of the towing capacity alone.

Cargo for Everyone’s Stuff

Family life usually calls for a lot of supplies. From loads of groceries to sports gear to school supplies and more, there is simply a lot of stuff that families cart around during day-to-day life. If you’re a family that simply needs a lot of cargo space, we recommend the Chevy Tahoe. With all its rear seats down, this SUV has 122.9 cu.ft. of cargo space. So, if you have to make a multi-week grocery run to the Super K Food Store or a back-to-school shopping trip got out of hand at Target, feel confident, knowing you can transport everything back in the cargo space of the Tahoe.

Dimensions Right for the Woodlands and Your Teens

The Tahoe also has a slightly higher ground clearance than the Traverse. With the Woodlands situated inside a natural forest, sometimes there are more rocks and debris in certain areas than expected. If you want to protect the bottom of your SUV from small dings and scratches, you might like the increased ground clearance of the Tahoe.

Depending on the age of your kids, you might find that the Tahoe is better suited to keep them comfortable. If you have teenagers or even kids of younger ages who are sprouting up like beanstalks, consider the Tahoe for its extended rear seat leg room alone. While the Traverse and Tahoe can both seat up to eight, one major distinction between the two is that the cabin is a bit larger in the Tahoe, making it good for tall passengers.

A Front Seat That Spoils The Driver

If you are stuck behind the wheel of your SUV most of the day, running errands, doing carpool drop offs, and handling soccer practice pickups, you want to be comfortable in your vehicle. That’s why we love to show off the 10-way power driver and front passenger seats of the Tahoe. With 10-way adjustability, you and your co-pilot can get your seats to that perfect position for long drives. That way, at least your back won’t hurt when you get home (though your head might still hurt from all the rear seat requests for ice cream stops).

The Traverse: Good for Traveling Families

Fuel Economy That Impresses

The Traverse can also seat up to eight passengers. Its dimensions are slightly compressed compared to the Tahoe. However, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t feel spacious. Its interior is more than capable of keeping eight passengers comfortable. Meanwhile, its smaller dimensions are part of what make it significantly better on gas than the Tahoe. For this reason, we like to show it to Woodlands families who regularly commute to nearby Houston. If you’re watching your spending and don’t want to find yourself at the gas pump too often, you’ll like the solid mileage you get out of the Traverse—18 MPG in the city, 27 MPG on the highway, for a combined rating of 21 MPG.

Cup Holders for All, and Then Some

One stand-out feature of the Traverse that you might not notice until you get inside is its 10 cup holders. Yes, we said 10. That’s more cup holders than seats. We know how busy family life on the road can be. Everyone’s a little happier with their pick-me-up refreshments. Whether it’s mugs of coffee for the adults to power their day, sports drinks for active kids, or sippy cups for young ones, everybody is more content with their preferred beverage nearby.

A Quiet Cabin for a Napping Haven

There are a few features of the Traverse that make it one we like to show families with young children. It’s smaller in dimensions compared to the Tahoe, but that’s a non-issue if you still have little ones whose feet dangle when they’re seated. Another perk for parents of small kids—active noise cancellation.

The Traverse features active noise cancellation, a system that emits a quiet, soothing sound that actually cancels out the sound of the engine. Think of it like white noise for your vehicle. We know that many parents need car time to be nap time for grumpy kids. It gives parents a short reprieve from chaos and recharges kids before hours of homework or after-school activities. If your young children are sensitive to the sound of the engine or outside noise, you’ll appreciate this feature. It might mean everyone is snoring in the back seat in no time.
