If you’re looking for a large and powerful SUV, few models come close to offering what the Chevy Tahoe brings to the road. With a reliable and sturdy exterior design, a fantastic safety suite of standard features, and Chevy’s signature customizability and versatility, what’s not to love? As you start looking for a Chevy Tahoe for sale, you’ll quickly discover that you have many options available. This can make choosing the right one tricky; shopping at a dealership like ours that puts your needs first and identifies what you’re looking for helps. Still, it also helps to figure a few things out before arriving at our dealership. Today, we’ll take you through your options with the Tahoe and see if we can help you decide which model is right for you. Ultimately, you’ll have to decide which features you need, but we can at least point you in the right direction.

First, the Three Available Engines

Before we get into the six trim levels for the Tahoe, we should quickly go over the three available engines found in varying availability between the Tahoe’s many trims. You might not be too worried about the engine in your SUV, but since the Tahoe is a full-size model, you’ll want to ensure it has plenty of power to push through any given scenario. The starting engine on the Tahoe is a 5.3L V8 gas engine that delivers 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque, giving it more than enough power for the average driver.

If you want something with more power, then there’s an available 6.2L V8 engine that boosts performance up to 420 hp, delivering a more exhilarating kick to the Tahoe’s ride. One of the most unique things about the Tahoe, similar to most Chevy models, is the available 3.0L Duramax diesel engine, which offers 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque, giving you tremendous power and muscle. You don’t see diesel engines on SUVs very often, but having one as an option is immensely valuable. No matter which engine you choose, it comes paired with a 10-speed automatic for smooth, responsive shifting that makes the Tahoe a joy to drive.

The Chevy Tahoe LS

Kicking things off, we have the LS trim, the starting option for the Tahoe, and a demonstration of fantastic simplicity. The LS comes with the 5.3L V8 engine as standard, with the Duramax diesel engine as an available alternative, and you have your choice of two-wheel drive (2WD) or four-wheel drive (4WD), depending on your preference between fuel efficiency and performance. It rides on 18-inch wheels wrapped in all-season tires, featuring black assist steps, body-color heated side mirrors, and a manual liftgate for the rear cargo area.

Looking inside the Tahoe LS, we find an eight-inch infotainment system with support for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You also get a standard six-speaker sound system, a 4.2-inch color Driver Information System, and a keyless open system with a remote start feature, all standard. The LS features cloth seating with front bucket seats, a 10-way power driver’s seat, an eight-way power front-passenger seat, and a wrapped steering wheel. You get tri-zone automatic climate control to keep your passengers comfortable, as well as the standard Chevy Safety Assist package with a Forward Collision Alert with Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist with a Lane Departure Warning, and much more.

The Chevy Tahoe LT

Moving up to the LT gets you many upgrades, with all the same engine options and simple performance of the LS. One of the best reasons to choose the LT is the standard hands-free power liftgate, which makes it very easy to load and unload things from the back of your Tahoe. Looking inside, the LT features several fantastic upgrades over the LS, such as a gorgeous 10.2-inch infotainment display and Chevy’s premium operating system with built-in navigation. You get a nine-speaker Bose sound system, leather-appointed and heated front seats, a 10-way front passenger seat, a stunning 12-inch color Driver Information Center, and a wireless charging pad to round out the interior upgrades.

The Chevy Tahoe RST

Suppose you’re interested in that powerful 6.2L V8 gas engine. In that case, the RST should be the first trim you check out since this is the first one with it available—in fact, you can get any of the three engines on this trim. The RST is an incredibly stylish model with 22-inch high-gloss black wheels that grab the attention of anyone who sees them. These wheels pair beautifully with the RST’s monochromatic accented black grille to create a distinctly sophisticated appearance. Moving inside, we find a jet-black interior design unique to the RST, with red-colored stitching and perforated leather-appointed seating for an incredibly luxurious cabin.

The Chevy Tahoe Z71

Within the Tahoe lineup, the Z71 is the stand-out off-roading specialist trim. For those looking to traverse the great outdoors, the Z71 is ready to take you wherever you want. Leave civilization behind with its 20-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires and a front fascia with a high approach angle to keep your undercarriage safe from obstacles on the trail. You get performance front skid plates and an available Adaptive Air Ride suspension that can smoothly handle every bump on and off the road. The 5.3L V8 engine is standard on the Z71, with the 6.2L as an available alternative, and every Z71 comes with 4WD featuring an Autotrac 2-speed transfer case for excellent ride quality and traction in all kinds of conditions.

The Chevy Tahoe Premier

One step away from the pinnacle of luxury on the Chevy Tahoe, the Premier trim is a fantastic model that lets you choose from all three available engines. It features a dual-outlet exhaust for impressive performance, new chrome door handles, and more stylish and unique details across the exterior. Inside, the Premier features a Bose 10-speaker Surround with a CenterPoint audio system for incredible sound quality, perforated leather-appointed seating with 12-way power front seats, heated and ventilated front seats, and heated second-row seats. It has a heated steering wheel, a wireless device charger, and a power-sliding center console up front that gives you hidden storage for items up to 10 inches in size.

The Chevy Tahoe High Country

Finally, we come to the High Country, the pinnacle trim for the Tahoe and a beautiful example of everything a full-size SUV can be. You can choose either the Duramax diesel engine or the 6.2L V8 with this model. The High Country borrows the available Adaptive Air Ride suspension from the Z71 and glides in atop 22-inch wheels. Inside, the High Country builds on what the Premier brings to the road with a 15-inch multi-color Head-Up Display that projects important information onto your windshield, making it easy to keep everything in view. You get improved safety features here, like Rear Pedestrian Alert and an HD Surround Vision system that gives you a virtual 360-degree look around your vehicle when maneuvering at low speeds. You can even get GM’s revolutionary Super Cruise hands-free driving technology for the High Country, elevating your time on the road to an all-new level.

Find the Chevy Tahoe You’re Looking For

Deciding on the engine you want is a great place to start since that can dictate some trim levels that will or won’t work for you. From there, consider if you have specific goals or features that are must-haves for you. For example, suppose you want a full-size SUV built for handling rough terrain and taking you to your favorite campsite. In that case, the Tahoe Z71 is a great choice. The Premier and High Country models are going to be your top picks for the most luxurious and innovative features around, while the LS and LT are both excellent starting points if you’re looking for pure value over specific features. Finally, consider the RST a stylish step up from the LT with some unique features and more engine options. With that in mind, it should be easy to decide which model is best for you—though we’re happy to answer any questions and help you pick the right Tahoe to meet your needs.
