At Parkway Chevrolet, we know how much Texas drivers love a good truck. We also consider ourselves truck connoisseurs and are always excited when the great truck makers of America release new models. We particularly love introducing the latest pickups to our neighbors in Katy because we know a rugged yet spacious truck is perfect for the beautiful region just west of Houston. The Chevy Silverado HD line of trucks, in particular, provides an excellent combination of hardworking features and creature comforts that are perfect for working parents raising families. For the new year, Chevrolet has not slowed down in its work to keep the Silverado a top choice for truck lovers.

If you are interested in checking out the redesigned 2024 Silverado HD trucks at a Chevy Silverado dealer near Katy, TX, it’s time to swing by Parkway Chevrolet. Changes come at us quickly in this line of trucks, and if you don’t look closely, you can miss them. However, the distinct differences between the 2023 and 2024 Silverado HD trucks are important to be aware of when you’re shopping. Some drivers loved the 2023 model, and others were ready for certain upgrades. We’re going to help you understand what distinguishes these two great trucks to make your decision a bit easier.

Increased Power Where It Counts

If you need more power, smoother gear transitions, and better command (let’s be honest, who doesn’t want that?), we will have to say that the redesigned 2024 Silverado HD is the way to go. Chevy has made the previously optional Allison 10-speed automatic transmission standard on the base gasoline engine as well as the optional Duramax turbo-diesel. This adds four more gears compared to the standard six-speed automatic in the 2023 model.

Here’s why having those extra gears is particularly nice when driving a massive truck: it allows for smaller steps between gears, and that means less power loss when shifting. You’ll appreciate that when you’re lugging the heavy weight of a fully-loaded truck and trailer up a hill. You’ll also get enhanced grade braking from this 10-speed transmission, helping you maintain your preferred speed when you’re going downhill. Overall, you’re just going to feel more in control of your truck and trailer with the new 10-speed transmission.

Maximum horsepower and torque are also up for 2024 models equipped with the Duramax turbo-diesel engine. For 2023, this engine offered a respectable 445 hp and 910 lb-ft of torque. Now its output is up to 470 hp and 975 lb-ft of torque. We should also mention that Chevy improved low-end torque by 25 percent, allowing for improved performance when traveling at low speeds or going uphill. With more power and a higher max tow rating of 22,500 lbs for the Silverado 2500 HD, you can do more with the 2024 version of this heavy-duty truck.

A Luxury Interior

The 2023 Silverado HD interior was nice––but the 2024 model is nicer. It’s a lot nicer, actually. First of all, note that the touchscreen jumps from just eight inches in the 2023 Silverado HD to a massive 13.4 inches in the 2024 model. That’s more than a 60-percent size increase. It just makes it easier to see everything, like your navigation, apps, music, and more. The new screen also comes with new software that adds a ton of features to the Silverado HD, including Google Built-In, which allows you to access popular apps without needing to connect your smartphone.

While the 2023 screens face straight forward, the 2024 display is actually angled towards the driver for a better view. It’s just a sleeker, more modern look than the 2023 model had to offer (though ironically, it’s inspired by the 1970s C/K Series trucks). There are other little details you’ll notice in the 2024 Silverado HD that are different from the 2023 model, like a new orientation of the cupholders (side-by-side now) to allow for a more spacious feel and a new location for the wireless phone charger for a tidier driver center. There are also additional cubbies throughout the 2024 truck that are not found in the 2023 Silverado HD, like a sunglasses holder behind the infotainment screen.

Another upgrade that we think rear-seat passengers will like is the climate vents with separate controls for second-row riders. Passengers in the 2023 Silverado HD won’t get those. Add to that the leather-wrapped surfaces and wood accents that are available on some trims of the 2024 truck that are not seen in the 2023 model, and the newer version simply feels more upscale and refined. We’d gladly recommend it to Katy drivers looking for a little luxury.

An All-New Face

We probably don’t need to tell you that the exterior of the HD has been redesigned for the 2024 model year. You can see it right away, with the “CHEVROLET” lettering removed from the grille and placed on the hood scoop instead. Then you have these fun new C-shaped LED graphic running lights. What you won’t see at first glance is that the 2024 Silverado HD does a fun new thing with its projector headlights. When you exit or approach your truck, it will put on an entertaining light display.

When it comes to the exterior, the 2024 model adds a slate of six brand-new color options. These are Sterling Gray, Dark Ash, Radiant Red, Auburn Metallic, Lakeshore Blue Metallic, and Meteorite Metallic. Drivers will also enjoy new wheel options not found on the 2023 Silverado HD. These include available 20-inch bright chrome wheels, 18-inch polished aluminum dually wheels, and some other fun choices we can’t wait to show you.

The great news is that Chevy was clever enough to know which packages and editions drivers love. You’ll still get the spirited Z71 Sport Edition and the stunning Midnight Special Edition that you had in the 2023 model year. However, Chevy has also taken things up a notch with the brand-new 2024 Silverado 2500 HD ZR2 trim. This off-road variant adds a 1.5-inch factory lift, Multimatic DSSV dampers, and a ton of trail-ready features to create Chevy’s most adventurous heavy-duty truck yet.
