Popular at Houston Chevy truck dealers, a blue 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2, is shown from the side parked near a grassy hillside.

The Chevy Silverado has always been one of the most versatile trucks on the road. Not only do drivers get to choose between one full-size model, the Silverado 1500, and two heavy-duty trucks, the Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD, but they are also offered more cab styles, powertrains, trims, and special features than you will find on any other truck you will find at your Houston Chevy truck dealer. However, there was one model that was needed to complete the Silverado 1500 lineup: a dedicated off-road pickup truck. Sure, you could always add the Z71 package, but unlike the midsize Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison, the Silverado lineup did not have a trim that was designed from the ground up for the purpose of providing drivers with the thrills that could only be found by racing a full-size pickup truck over a wild and wooly off-road trail.

Chevrolet has decided to join the full-size off-road truck battle with the 2022 Silverado 1500 ZR2, and Chevy has come loaded for bear. The Silverado ZR2 truly has it all and will soon be coming to our dealership. Parkway Family Chevy is your Houston Chevy Truck dealer with the most extensive inventory of Chevy truck models, so you will have no problem finding the one that will serve you best. Come in today to test-drive a ZR2 and see why it will soon be King of the Hill, as well as the Trail.

Go From A to ZR2 With a Powerful Powertrain!

The engineers at Chevy know that you need real power when you are hitting the trail, so they have equipped the 2022 Silverado ZR2 with a standard 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8 gas engine. This engine comes paired with a Hydra-Matic 10-speed automatic transmission, enhancing efficiency while also giving you exceptional control over engine performance. It has a cast aluminum block and cylinder heads, with an overhead valve train design. The direct high-pressure fuel injection system has dynamic fuel management, boosting performance to an impressive 420 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 460 lb-ft of torque at 4100 rpm.

If it sounds like Chevy had racing in mind when it designed the Silverado ZR2, then you may be on the right track. As General Motors chief engineer, Performance Variants, Parts and Motorsports Engineering, Dom Lester points out, “Chevrolet has been competing on some of the most grueling, toughest off-road courses with a prototype Silverado ZR2 in the Best in the Desert race series. We applied what we learned in racing and Moab testing to the new ZR2 to offer a supremely capable and confidence-inspiring package, but one that doesn’t beat you up on the highway with its ride quality. It’s equally capable and comfortable.”

This is where the Multimatic 40mm DSSV dampers and specific springs come into play. The Silverado ZR2 will be the first full-size Chevy truck to feature this suspension system with its spool valve damping. There are three separate spool valves to control damping on the Silverado ZR2’s suspension system, giving you a smooth ride whether you are traveling on pavement or something a little rougher. In addition, the suspension has three connected chambers for fluid flow, keeping things nice and balanced in the ZR2’s standard Crew Cab.

Silverado ZR2 Is Capable Too!

You need peace of mind when you tackle the toughest trails, and this is what you will get when you buy a Silverado ZR2. This truck was built from the ground up to give you unmatched off-roading capability, starting with unique 18-inch aluminum wheels fitted with a set of 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory M/T tires. These give an unmatched lift to the Silverado ZR2 truck, a full 11.2-inches of ground clearance. Kelly MacDonald, Chevrolet Truck Marketing’s director, makes clear that, “The addition of the all-new Silverado ZR2, Chevy’s flagship off-road truck, builds on an already strong portfolio of factory-lifted pickups from Chevrolet that are bringing in new buyers.”

You will see the difference when you are out on the trail. The Silverado ZR2’s 31.8-inch approach angle is helped out by a high-approach steel front bumper. The 23.4-inch breakover angle will get you over most obstacles, while the 23.3-inch departure angle will keep things intact with the standard steel rear bumper shielding the truck’s hidden dual exhaust. The Silverado ZR2’s steel skid plates make sure you don’t damage anything vital in the undercarriage while you push your truck to the limit. Those red tow hooks in front are not just for show but also designed to help you get your Silverado ZR2 out of a tight spot.

The Silverado 1500 ZR2 comes with a standard 4X4 drivetrain with front and rear electronic locking differentials to prevent slippage. The two-speed transfer case will make sure that each axle gets the proper amount of horsepower. There is even a Terrain Mode that allows you to use one-pedal driving while rock climbing so that you don’t have to worry about going from the brake to the accelerator. The ZR2’s 4X4 system will take care of that for you.

For those of you who also want to use your Silverado ZR2 for more than just off-roading, you will be pleased to know that Chevy has designed this truck to be capable of towing up to 8,900 pounds and carrying up to 1,440 pounds of cargo in its payload bed. The Silverado ZR2 comes with a standard short box. As you can see, this truck is not a one-trick pony like so many other purpose-built off-road models from other automakers.

Silverado ZR2 Has Great Looks Inside and Out

Chevrolet worked to give the Silverado ZR2 unique looks both inside and out. It starts with a rugged exterior that is unlike any other truck in the lineup. The bold black grille includes the classic Chevrolet bowtie logo, although it is hollow on the ZR2. This “flowtie” has been designed to provide maximum airflow to the 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8 gas engine. The grille is complemented by accent lighting, as well as a pair of hood scoops on the ZR2’s raised hood. There is also a set of stylized inserts in the hood to draw attention to the front’s tough and rugged design.

A set of animated LED headlights are on either side of the grille, contained in black bezels. The headlights even have a special tracer animation feature that is unlike anything ever seen on a Silverado model. The aluminum wheels have open moldings that are unique to the Silverado ZR2 truck. This will help with traversing muddy trails and fording creeks. They also look really cool.

Chevy carries these rugged looks over into the ZR2’s interior. When you open the door to your Silverado ZR2, you are greeted by a Jet Black and Graystone leather trim that is striking. Not only are these seats gorgeous to look at, but they are amazingly comfortable as well. The crew cab on the Silverado ZR2 is incredibly roomy, with a full 43.4 inches of legroom in the rear seat.

As you get into the driver’s seat, you will be struck by the spectacular system staring back at you. The designers have placed a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster behind the steering, mounted right next to a huge 13.4-inch touchscreen for the Chevrolet Infotainment System. Your passengers are going to love the wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, as well as the Google built-in that is voice-activated. Just say “Hey Google,” and your own digital helper will be ready to assist you.
