You can’t go wrong with either of these engines, but we like the optional 1.3L for the extra power it provides, getting you around Houston with a bit more zip.

Front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard for the Trailblazer, no matter what model year you’re looking at, although all-wheel drive (AWD) is available. AWD is only offered with the 1.3L engine, and it will have a nine-speed automatic transmission rather than the standard CVT system. The 1.3L engine with FWD retains the standard engine’s CVT. The right option for you depends on your needs. We suggest AWD if you are dealing with dirt and gravel roads or want something that keeps you in control, rain or shine. If you drive mainly on pavement, don’t see a lot of rough weather, or wish to enjoy slightly better fuel economy, a FWD model will do just fine. The 1.3L engine with FWD is the most fuel-efficient combination, which gets 33 MPG on the highway, 29 MPG in the city, and 31 MPG combined.

Exterior Details to Consider

Although the specific model year can affect the exterior features you find, particularly colors, the trim level tends to have a bigger impact. The Trailblazer launched with five options: a standard L model, followed by the LS, then the LT, and finally the ACTIV and RS. For 2021, 16-inch wheels are standard on the L, with 17-inch wheels on the LS, LT, and ACTIV, and 18-inch wheels on the RS.
