The 2019 Chevrolet Equinox seats five. Buyers can select the Equinox in one of four trim levels: L, LS, LT and Premier. Buyers won’t find the entry-level L trim at dealerships, as it’s only available as a special order, which means there will be a wait. Powering the Equinox is a standard 1.5-liter turbo-four that develops 170 horses and 203 lb-ft of torque, matched to a six-speed automatic.

Buyers of the LT and Premier trims can choose one of the two available engines. First, there’s a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit that makes 252 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, joined to a nine-speed automatic gearbox. Also available is a 1.6-liter diesel four-cylinder engine that puts out 137 hp and 240 lb-ft, connected to a six-speed automatic.

All three engines feature a fuel-saving start-stop system that cuts the engine when the Equinox is idling. EPA-estimated fuel economy for the 1.5-liter four-cylinder block stands at 26 mpg in the city and 32 mpg highway (FWD), and 25 mpg city/35 mpg highway (AWD).* The 2.0-liter four-cylinder gets 22 mpg city/29 mpg highway (FWD) and 22 mpg city/28 mpg highway (AWD). The 1.6-liter diesel engine delivers 28 mpg city/39 mpg highway (FWD) and 28 mpg city/38 mpg highway (AWD).
