The redesigned Equinox was unveiled in January, 2009

at the North American International Auto show. It is about 25% more fuel efficient than the previous Equinox. The DI V-6 delivers a fuel efficiency of 18/25mpg (13.1/904 L/100 km) due to a 6-speed transmission with manual shift controls in the four wheel drive models. On the other hand, AWD reduces the fuel economy to 17/24 mpg (13.8/9.8 L/100 km). A combination of this will dispense a peak 225hp and 214 Ib.–ft. (290 Nm) of torque.

The slippery exterior of the new Equinox also contributes to the increased fuel economy. General Motors shifted the base of the CUVs fast windshield frontward about 3 inches and reduced its tail lamps to a perfect angle so that the wind slips off easily. The redesigned Equinox has the same wheelbase as its predecessor i.e. 112.5 inches. However, the new version is one inch shorter and one inch wider. It has bigger wheel arches so as to deliver a better and more aggressive posture. This also exhibits its off-road capabilities.

Complaints from customers about dirtying their trouser legs while stepping into the previous Equinox have been dealt with in the new design. The rocker panels have been integrated into the floor so as to manage this issue.

The new Equinox has much more storage space than its predecessor. Under the center armrest, there is space large enough for a lady’s large handbag or a laptop. There is also more leg room because the rear seating can move 8 (20.3 cm) inches either in the front or backwards. In addition, the new Equinox can fit into small garages because it has an adjustable power liftgate that can be programmed appropriately.

The redesigned Equinox is very comfortable and functional therefore it is an excellent vehicle.
